Our has over 30 years’ experience in the analysis of metocean data for locations worldwide. We have developed our own in-house modelling capability to improve the range and quality of the products we can offer. Our modelled data can be validated against the site-specific measured data that Gbmar collects and can then be analysed to provide the highest quality metocean criteria. We also supply time series data from our in-house hindcast model databases.

We produce metocean criteria for a wide range of applications, with our output tailored to meet our clients’ requirements. Early dialogue with clients enables us to advise on a suitable metocean study for a particular project.

We have many years of experience in providing criteria for offshore design and operation, and have expanded our capabilities to include innovative products such as soliton modelling and the atmospheric modelling of cyclones.

Our range of services includes:

  • Numerical modelling of wind, wave, water level and current (forecasts and hindcasts)
  • Metocean design criteria
  • Cyclonic modelling and extreme criteria
  • Operational metocean statistics for planning, tendering and vessel selection
  • Sediment transport modelling
  • Soliton modelling

Knowledge of metocean conditions is needed at many stages in the life span of a project, from an initial feasibility study through to design, installation and operation. We provide suitable information for a wide range of applications.

Criteria for engineering design

  • Extreme wind, wave, current and water level criteria for return periods of 100, 1,000 and 10,000 years

Modelling coastal processes

  • Hydrodynamic modelling of shallow water currents and sediment transport
  • Detailed nearshore wave modelling for input to structural design
  • Modelling the effects of new infrastructure and modifications to existing facilities
  • Water quality modelling

Information to aid operational planning

  • Monthly statistics of metocean conditions to improve planning of offshore operations
  • Estimating the effect of weather downtime on offshore operation duration

Metocean criteria for route  planning

  • Metocean conditions along a proposed route (e.g. for marine transport or pipeline route)
  • Annual, seasonal or monthly criteria

Our approach to metocean analysis is based on extensive experience and an understanding of the aims and specific applications of a project.

We provide:

  • High quality metocean design criteria derived from in-house models and measurements
  • Metocean statistics to save costs by reducing the risk of weather downtime
  • Models of complex metocean processes such as cyclones and solitons
  • Cost-effective desk studies to help refine the requirements for measurement surveys
